The Language Arts Department is full of reading, writing, and sharing. In each grade, each teacher is dedicated to the education of every child in reading and writing. At Odyssey, our teachers use research-driven reading and writing strategies to bring out the fullest potential in all students. Our curriculum progresses from one grade to another; each year becoming increasingly more challenging. We also offer an advanced language arts class which has a separate curriculum with an elevated academic rigor. It is expected that students will complete much of their reading assignments outside of class, which allows students to spend more time on critical thinking activities.

Our primary textbook is SpringBoard from College Board. SpringBoard is a comprehensive program of professional development, instructional materials, resources, and diagnostic assessments, which prepares all students from 6th through 12th grade to succeed in college-level work, such as Advanced Placement courses, or in a university or college setting. Based on the rigorous College Board Standards for College Success, SpringBoard has been developed specifically to encourage all students to meet high expectations. In addition to our primary text, our literature book is The Language of Literature by McDougal Littell. Our grammar and composition book is Language Network, also by McDougal Littell. These books help us to directly support the Sunshine State Standards. In addition to our adopted textbooks, all of our teachers use novels to enhance our curricula. Novels help to bring a depth to the curricula and to reinforce our work with FSA preparation. All of our curricula is driven to bring the best to every Odyssey Middle School student.

Class information will be posted as teachers submit them for the new school year.
